STORE CATTLE
NEW MARKET RECORD - £11,100 FOR A COW AND CALF !!!
The Paul Davis Memorial Trophy attracted another quality entry of Breeding Cattle, with the Champion, ably judged by Ben Key, be awarded to a Pedigree Limousin Cow with Bull Calf at foot from Messers D & S Wharton.
We had 3 telephone bidders from the South, the Midlands and the Borders, all trying to buy this most impressive outfit. However, after much spirited bidding, the battle was won by George Watson on behalf of Felix Caldwell, Essex, to start his new Pedigree Herd at £11,100 - a new Market Record !!
As i always say to prospective buyers from away, never underestimate the local - they have warrior blood. Other Show Cattle attracted fantastic prices. Reserve Champion went to A Hodge with a Limousin Cow & Heifer Calf at £3,400. John Goddard took 3rd Price with a Pedigree Simmental Bulling Heifer at £2,000. A lovely Limousin Stock Bull from Intwood Farms sold for £3,600, with an older Stock Bull from Richard Criddle making £3,000
The Store Cattle section was well supported and although consisted of a mixed bag in places, sold at too higher level when considering the fat trade.

Top of the pops went to Alex Dann with Charolais Bulls to £750, £745, £740, £735. Blues topped at £690 for a Bull and £670 for a Heifer from CW Potter. Angus Bulls reached £680 for Redgate Farms & £665 for CB & SC Gapp. Smaller and younger Charolais from R Paterson sold to £650
